Task

What is multimodal transportation? Let’s take an example of a person traveling thousands of kilometers from home: he chooses the most favorable route, profitable connecting flights, transfers to get to the place with maximum comfort as quickly as possible.

The same happens with cargo: multimodal transportation combines several modes of transport. We select the best option and a combination of different transport to deliver the cargo the shortest way. In this regard, the customer’s comfort is our key priority.

This case illustrates such transportation. Recently, our customer, one of the largest designers and manufacturers of electrical equipment, appealed to TRASKO to carry out the transportation of power transformers and their components. The cargo has to be delivered by car and by rail from Zhangjiagang (China, Jiangsu province) to Angarsk, (Russia, Irkutsk region). In addition to transportation, we also provided cargo insurance.

The delivery from Zhangjiagang to Manchuria became the first shipment distance. The cargo was delivered there onboard of four trucks. Then it was relocated on goods van and delivered to Zabaikalsk. The transport regulations allowed transporting transformers on opened rolling stocks.

In Zabaikalsk, the cargo and the spare parts were loaded onto the Russian platforms and rolling stocks and continued its journey to Irkutsk. The transformers and the components were again relocated onboard of four tilt-covered trucks and were delivered to the customer’s door.

All transportation was held in normal mode, except for a small delay associated with waiting for the supply of rolling stocks in Manchuria. This was coincided with difficulties with visas for Russian drivers and multi-kilometer queues of trucks at the Russian-Chinese border.

Overall, the transport changed twice and the cargo was successfully delivered to a customer covering a distance of 4,510 km for a month.
